MILLBURY — Finance Committee approves FY27 school budget with 4.62 percent increase. The joint Finance and School Committee meeting approved the budget, a $1.2 million increase over the prior year, though School Committee Chair Chris Wilbur cautioned the Town Manager has requested additional cuts be made. Finance Committee Clerk Jennifer O'Connell presented comparative analysis showing Millbury's per-pupil costs nearly double those of surrounding towns like Grafton; transportation and special education, including high numbers of one-to-one instructional aides, were identified as primary cost drivers.
The approved budget includes two layoffs of unfilled retiree positions, with projected state aid under Chapter 70 at approximately $9.3 million.
