Millbury Dog-Registration Deadline Is July 1; Late Fees Begin Wednesday

DATELINE — MILLBURY

Dog owners in Millbury are running out of time to avoid a late fee: the town's annual dog-registration deadline is July 1, and the town is urging residents to complete the process before the clock runs out.

TOWN HALL

The town's News Flash is carrying a reminder that all dogs must be registered before July 1 or owners will face a late fee. No additional details on the fee amount were provided in the release, but the town has flagged the deadline prominently on its homepage.

Also visible on the town's site: a drought-status notice originally issued May 8, when Energy and Environmental Affairs Secretary Rebecca Tepper declared worsened conditions in several Massachusetts regions. The central region — which includes Millbury — has since been updated to a "significant" drought level as conditions have improved somewhat statewide, though the designation remains in effect.

The Farmers Market at the Asa Waters Mansion, which launched June 18, continues its run with local vendors and live entertainment. No updated schedule was listed on the town site for this week's market date.

SCHOOLS

The Raymond E. Shaw Elementary School main office will be open a shortened schedule this week: Monday, June 29 through Wednesday, July 1 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Thursday, July 2 from 8 a.m. to noon. Families are reminded to stop in to check the lost-and-found before the holiday weekend.

Separately, sixth-grade families can now register for the fall Nature's Classroom trip. Registration forms are being accepted at Shaw during regular office hours or can be emailed to the school.

COMMUNITY & ARTS

The Millbury Public Library's Summer Reading Program is underway, having kicked off the week of June 22 with a petting zoo event for younger readers on June 23 and a murder mystery event for teens on June 24. Readers of all ages can sign up, log reading time, and earn prizes throughout the summer. Registration details are available at millburylibrary.org.

Residents should also note that the library will be closed Saturday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day.
