School Committee approves operational measures, addresses gymnasium flood damage
School Committee · Meeting of July 9, 2026
Millbury School Committee addresses major gymnasium water damage during roof construction. On June 29, a subcontractor breached a fire suppression sprinkler pipe while removing an air handling unit at the Jr./Sr. High School gymnasium, flooding the floor and causing wood cupping and structural distortion.
Business Manager Patric Mara is working with insurance carriers HUB International and Zurich International to pursue a claim for floor replacement; project architect Habeeb & Associates and contractors Gage and Colantonio are continuing the work. The Committee also unanimously approved fiscal 2026 budget closings totaling $26,782,330 with a $953.55 remainder, and authorized multi-year graduation venue contracts, while Superintendent Gregory Myers received an Exemplary overall summative evaluation for 2025-2026.
