School Committee Delays Vote on Graduation Diploma Policy
School Committee · Meeting of September 10, 2026
Millbury School Committee tables graduation diploma vote, hears roof project is under budget. Chair Christopher Wilbur and members postponed a second reading of Policy KCFB, which would shift diploma-handing duties from the principal to the committee chair, after a colleague who advocated the change was absent. The panel approved Aug. 27 minutes 4-0 and heard from Superintendent Gregory Myers that first-day enrollment topped 1,600 students pre-K through 12.
Finance and operations lead Mara told the board AA Transportation's five-year busing contract carries a 6 percent increase this year and that bus-speed complaints from families have not been corroborated by onboard monitors, saying "I would rather have law enforcement do that" on safety calls. The junior-senior high school and Elmwood Street School roof and HVAC project remains on track for substantial completion Sept. 16 and under budget, while a new gym floor project began this week.
