Shaw Elementary sets December student-led conferences
Raymond E. Shaw Elementary School announced sign-up details for December student-led conferences and a Worcester County District Attorney's Office presentation on healthy relationships and digital safety this month, plus the first Millbury Parents Club meeting Nov. 10.
Raymond E. Shaw Elementary School, part of Millbury Public Schools, outlined several upcoming events for families in its November community update, including student-led conference scheduling, a visit from the Worcester County District Attorney's Office, and the first meeting of a new parents club.
The scheduling window for Shaw's student-led conferences opens Monday, Nov. 9, at 6 p.m. and closes Friday, Nov. 27, at 9 p.m. Families are asked to sign up for one 10-minute block per child with classroom and special education teachers using a link sent by the child's teacher; an email address is required. All conferences will be held in person at Shaw this year, with sessions Wednesday, Dec. 2, from 12:15 to 6:45 p.m.; Thursday, Dec. 3, from 12:15 to 2:35 p.m.; Monday, Dec. 7, from 2:45 to 3:25 p.m.; and Wednesday, Dec. 9, from 2:45 to 3:15 p.m. Parents who want to meet with their child's Unified Arts teachers, listed in the release for music, art, physical education, technology and digital literacy, must email those teachers directly to arrange a time.
The Worcester County District Attorney's Office will hold in-person presentations at Shaw this month on healthy relationships, conflict resolution and digital safety. Students in grades 3 and 4 will attend a Friendships & Boundaries presentation covering signs of healthy and unhealthy friendships, conflict resolution, communicating boundaries, and identifying a trusted adult. Students in grades 5 and 6 will attend a Healthy/Unhealthy Relationships presentation covering similar signs in relationships, consent, communicating boundaries, and how to help a friend who is a survivor of an unhealthy relationship. The district attorney's office will also offer a virtual Dating Safety Presentation for parents and caregivers Thursday, Nov. 19, at 6 p.m., covering domestic violence and teen dating violence, including the cycle of abuse, financial abuse and coercive control.
Separately, the newly forming Millbury Parents Club will hold its first meeting Tuesday, Nov. 10, at 7 p.m. in the Elmwood Community Room.
