Millbury's Finance Committee learned its outgoing finance director is heading back to Oxford as free cash projections sink. Finance Director Katie McKenna, who started in January, told members Wednesday she is leaving Aug. 24 to return to Oxford, where she previously worked eight years. McKenna projected free cash certification of $1.1 million to $1.5 million, down sharply from recent years, citing a $515,128.79 drop in local receipts and $728,000 in uncollected property taxes.
She said the school department is seeking a $500,000 deficit spending authorization, already granted by the Select Board, to repair the high school gymnasium floor after an HVAC contractor triggered a sprinkler discharge; insurance will cover only a depreciated value. "We don't have a lot of capacity in the budget," McKenna said, urging the committee to build a capital plan. The committee voted unanimously to accept the July 8 minutes and welcomed new member Katelyn Leahy Barb before adjourning at 7:50 p.m.
